One of the main differences is men’s and women’s running shoes is the overall size and weight. On average, women tend to have smaller frames and less body weight than men, so men’s running shoes are going to be slightly bulkier with a thicker shoe to absorb the extra impact. Also, women tend to have smaller feet than men, so you will find a more narrow fit in the midsole and toe box of women’s shoes.

Oh, and don’t forget those hips that we as women have been blessed with. Yes, these even play a part in the design of our running shoes. Since women tend to have larger hips then men, it affects our stride slightly different, making overpronation more common.

If you are unfamiliar with the term, or unsure if you suffer from overpronation, check out our guide on buying running shoes for more information.

Lastly, as a woman, I feel that I look for a trainer that can multitask as much as I do. Not only do I want it to be a great running shoe, I need it to stand up to my kickboxing and spinning classes, as well as weekend errands.

Several popular shoe manufacturers have proven that they know what a woman wants and needs in a running shoe. Below is our list of the best running shoes for women.
